Pattern Portrait - Iteru

Iteru, the ancient Egyptian word for river, draws its life from a single, evocative fragment discovered in Cathy’s auction treasure. Whether it originated as a shard of pottery, a piece of fabric  or another storied object remains a mystery, but its playful geometric rhythm spoke to her instantly while leafing through those vintage pages. Though its roots reach back thousands of years, the design carries a distinct mid-century sensibility that feels remarkably modern. As our most intricate pattern to produce, Iteru requires a palette of five distinct shades, each meticulously applied via individual screens along our twenty-meter printing tables. This patient process, where every color must fully dry before the next layer is introduced, transforms the act of creation into a slow and beautiful labor of love.
