On Black Friday

On Black Friday

At Cathy Nordström we don’t do Black Friday. Despite it being a huge event for many brands, we choose not to succumb to the frenzy of marketing hype and cheap markdowns. This might seem a strange approach, so I thought I would explain why.

I don’t believe in trends, neither for home nor fashion. Our entire collection is thoughtfully designed to stand the test of time. We don’t promote fast home décor and we maintain our production as sustainable as possible. This ethos doesn’t fit with the consumerism of Black Friday. We pride ourselves on great customer care and want you to be completely happy with your products. This is our priority, rather than making as many quick sales as we can. We believe that building a home takes time.

Our products are produced in Sweden, in small factories, and printed on top quality paper and linen. Investing in new wallpaper, fabric for upholstery or curtains, or some beautiful cushions – these are all things that take consideration.

Today I would like to highlight one of our ateliers, Yalla Trappan. This is where the production of our cushions takes place. As a work integration social enterprise and women’s cooperative that is run by a non-profit association in Rosengård in Malmö, they are an important part of our mission to ”pay it forward”. Today Yalla Trappan employs more than 45 women from different countries. Their aim is to create jobs and increased financial independence for immigrant women who are often excluded from the Swedish labour market. By recognizing the great competence in their workforce and trainees, they have created a vital and stable operation defined by solidarity and a wealth of innovation.

For us, Yalla Trappan is a natural and inspiring part of our production chain and we absolutely love working with them. Our hope is that by sharing the story about Yalla Trappan and the fantastic women behind it, you as our customer will feel that a Cathy Nordström product is an investment in a larger sense. A considered purchase that keeps on giving, rather than an impulse purchase triggered by the "fomo" and feigned urgency surrounding Black Friday.

Thank you for your support!
xx Cathy
